description
André Hupet (1922-1993) is a Belgian sculptor, ceramist, draftsman, painter and tapestry designer. He was a member of 'Les Maitrises de Nimy', a progressive movement raised in 1943. The group consisted of 8 young artists who were attending the college of Fine Arts in Mons, Belgium. Their ambition was to bring ceramics to a higher artistic level, in a production context that was previously essentially industrial. They organised their workshop in the pottery of Nimy. Following the closing of the pottery in 1950, the group had to relocate, but in their spirit many others followed and made sometimes thruly extravangant artwork.
