description
A rare set of freestanding bookcases, made of folded sheet steel and lacquered in black and white. Designed in 1960 by Wim Rietveld on commission by and sold exclusively through Amsterdam department store 'De Bijenkorf'. It is inspired by the wooden bookcase designed by his father Gerrit Rietveld in the 1930s, in the tradition of 'De Stijl'. The shelving units offer storage from both sides. They can be used as room divider. Traces of wear and some corrosion, as shown in the pictures.specifications
