2 'Garden Egg' chairs - Peter Ghyczy
sold
description
2 Garden Egg Chairs, in red and white, designed by Peter Ghyczy in 1968. The chair was designed for both indoor and outdoor use, although as a design icon and collectable it is rarely used outdoors. The chair lid lifts and closes, and when closed is theoretically waterproof. Peter Ghyczy started his working career as chief designer for the Polyurethane factory 'Elastogran GmbH' in Germany. His job was to start a design centre in order to show industrial customers polyurethane's potential. The The Garden Egg Chair is one of the first chairs made with polyurethane. The design incorporates features typical of the period: a space age look , UFO-like form, bright color, portability and the informal lounging quality of the low seat. Elastogran/Reuter produced the plastic polyurethane.
The chairs are in a good condition, the red one has some lacquer damage as shown in the pictures. The seat of the white one has some stains. The price is for the set, but they can be sold separately.
