description

This daybed designed by Rob Parry and made by the manufacturer Gelderland (Netherlands) in 1959, is an early production. Rob Parry (born 1925 in The Hague) studied at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague, where his main teachers were Cor Alons, Paul Schuitema and Gerrit Rietveld, for whom Parry worked. It was Rietveld's firm that laid the foundations for Parry's interest in exhibition design.
Parry was a talented designer who created many beautiful pieces of furniture in the 1950s and 1960s for clients such as Gelderland Design. One of his most successful designs at Gelderland was his mattress armchair (model ‘1611’). It was so popular that more than 60,000 were made!
The sofa is restored and reupholstered with sustainable textile (Camira Main Line Flax, a blend of wool and plant-based fibres) and is in a beautiful condition.
Rob Parry's designs are included in the collections of renowned museums, including the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, Boijmans Van Beuningen Museum in Rotterdam, the Museum for Communication in The Hague and the Stedelijk Museum in 's Hertogenbosch.
