rare dining set - Soren Nissen & Ebbe Gehl

description
A rare dining set by Søren Nissen & Ebbe Gehl for French Ebénisterie Seltz, a small family-run wood workshop. The set consists of 4 chairs and a dining table, manufactured in solid beech. The chairs, model FCH 1A, display strong geometric lines with a recurring triangular pattern in the backrest. While the overall wood used is beech, elm was chosen for the details. The geometric detail in elm reoccurs in the dining table.
The chair’s elements give it an interesting look from all different angles. The backrest leans slightly backward through the diagonal positioning of the base. The seat is slightly curved, being made of three different panels.
Award-winning designer-duo Nissen and Gehl started their collaboration in 1970s Copenhagen as cabinet makers. From there they have produced many furniture pieces together. Like this dining set, their designs are characterized by delicate craftmanship, often working with natural material such as wood.
This dining set is in good condition and has acquired a beautiful patina throughout the years.
