'Sappho' Table Lamp - Angelo Mangiarotti

description
A first-edition ‘Sappho’ table lamp, designed by Mangiarotti in the 1960s.The Sappho has become one of his most notable designs, displaying his sculptural skill.
It consists of a chromed steel base and a mushroom shaped lampshade, made from mouth-blown Murano glass.
The lampshade is cleverly crafted in two hues, going from an opaque white to a more transparent shade. This transition makes it possible to hide the light source while creating a beautiful effect when lit.
An inner black glass element can be seen coming through the smoky pattern. The light is reflected upon its black surface, adding to the Sappho’s interesting design.
The table lamp remains in good condition, with some slight traces of use. Underneath the base, signs of a first edition can be seen.
